INTERVISTA A JOCHEM VAN DEN HOEK DOPO IL SUO ESORDIO AL TT

Il Tourist Trophy 2016 si è concluso ormai da venti giorni, i suoi protagonisti sono già concentrati sul prossimo obiettivo, ma come di storie da raccontare ce ne sono molte!
Quando si parla del TT si commette l’errore di pensare solo al podio, se va bene ai primi dieci e poi? Poi ci perdiamo nomi le cui storie hanno lo stesso valore (a volte di più) di chi è salito su quei gradini del podio, perché ognuno di loro aveva un obiettivo ed un podio personale da raggiungere. Quindi oggi conosciamo meglio Jochem van den Hoek, il pilota olandese, non ancora ventottenne che quest’anno ha fatto il suo esordio al Tourist Trophy, ma il cui nome per noi che seguiamo l’IRRC non è affatto una novità.

Ciao Jochem, prima di tutto come stai?
Ciao. Molto bene grazie. Ancora in fermento dopo il TT!

Quest’anno hai fatto il tuo debutto al Tourist Trophy, quando hai iniziato a pensare di partecipare e come ti sei preparato negli ultimo mesi?
Partecipare al TT è sempre stato un mio sogno. Non avevo mai pensato avrebbe potuto essere possibile per me. Quando ho iniziato a correre nel IRRC ho corso con alcuni piloti che hanno partecipato al TT ed è sempre stato affascinante. Nel 2013 il mio compagno di squadra era Branko Srdanov e quell’anno si preparava per esordire al TT. È stato in quel momento che ho iniziato ad avere l’idea che sarebbe potuto essere possibile anche per me in futuro. Così ho iniziato a partecipare a grandi eventi road racing come la North West200 e la Southern100 per prepararmi al TT. Quando ho iniziato a correre per il team Performance Racing Achterhoek, sapevo era arrivato il momento giusto per il TT. Gli ultimi mesi sono stati frenetici. Mi sono allenato molto in palestra ed in mountain bike. Ho passato anche molto tempo ad imparare il tracciato. Ma c’erano anche molte cose di cui dovevo occupami prima di partire per il TT. Quindi momenti molto molto impegnativi per me.

Com’è stato quando (finalmente) è arrivato il 28 Maggio?
naturalmente ero molto nervoso prima dell’inizio delle prove. Ma quando finalmente sono arrivato sul tracciato tutto si è sistemato. Ero molto contento della mia conoscenza del tracciato e fiducioso di poter disputare un TT di successo.

Durante la settimana di prove sei stato sempre più veloce, ogni giorno, al Lunedì il tuo best era 108.85mph e già al giovedì segnavi un 115.06mph. come ti sei approcciato al Mountain Course?
Il lavoro che ho svolto durante l’inverno è stato la ragione che mi ha permesso di essere veloce già nella settimana di prove. Non c’è stato un solo momento in cui fossi incerto di una curva che stavo per affrontare o quale parte del tracciato stessi per affrontare.

Cosa mi dici delle gare, la superbike è stata la prima, com’è stato aspettare il via? La Stock è quella in cui hai ottenuto il tuo risultato migliore e quindi il Senior.
La tensione prima delle gare è molto alta. Non c’è alcuna pressione su di te in quanto newcomer, ma naturalmente vuoi ottenere il miglior risultato possibile. Il Senior è stata la peggior gara per via del ritardo che si è accumulato prima del via. Le gare sono andate molto bene. Ma sono così stancanti a livello fisico. Anche rimanere concentrate per così tanto tempo è difficile. Fare sei giri in questo tipo di gara è la cosa più difficile che io abbia mai fatto in vita mia. Prima dell’inizio della settimana di gare sapevo che la classe stock sarebbe stata la mia migliore occasione per ottenere il mio miglior risultato. La gara è stata perfetta ed abbiamo fatto un ottimo pit stop. Sono stato molto felice di aver concluso 34°!

Quali sono i tuoi migliori ricordi di questo tuo primo TT? Tornerai il prossimo anno?
Le due intere settimane sono state come un sogno. Tutto è andato meglio di quanto ci fossi aspettati. È stato grandioso essere il newcomer più veloce durante la settimana di prove e guidare sul Mountain Course dopo tutti questi anni è stata un’esperienza che non dimenticherò mai! Spero di poter tornare al TT il prossimo anno, ma sarà molto difficile. È un evento che richiede molto tempo e soldi.

Chi ti ha supportato in questa decisione di correre al TT e chi vuoi ringraziare?
Vorrei ringraziare tutti i miei sponsor. Molti di loro mi hanno sostenuto fin dagli inizi ella mia carriera. Non riesco a ringraziarli abbastanza per tutto ciò che hanno fatto per me! È stato anche bello avere il sostegno di tutti i fan olandesi del TT. Ma soprattutto voglio ringraziare Performance racing Achterhoek. Non sarei nessuno senza il mio team e I ragazzi hanno lavorato duramente per darmi la moto perfetta per due intere settimane.

Quali sono i piani per il futuro? Lo scorso anno hai partecipato all’UGP, ritornerai o ti concentri sui round IRRC?
Ritornerò nel IRRC il prossimo anno. Sperando di poter fare anche ancora qualche road race internazionale.

Io ringrazio Jochem per la sua disponibilità, al TT pur avendolo incontrato spesso, ad aver seguito la gara superbike con il suo team non avevo avuto modo di parlare con lui, sicuramente gli auguro di poter tornare il prossimo anno, piloti come lui fanno bene a questo ambiente!

INTERVEW WITH JOCHEM VAN DEN HOEK AFTER HIS TT DEBUT

The Tourist Trophy 2016 is already finished by 20 days, its riders are already focused on the next target, but a lot of stories must be told! Sometimes, when it’s about the TT people make the mistake to think just about the podium, or the top ten (if we’re lucky) and then? Then we lost names and stories, whose value is the same (or some times higher) than who was on the podium, because all riders have their personal podium to achieve. So today it’s my pleasure to meet Jochem van den Hoek, who made his debut this year on the TT Course; for us it’s not a “new entry” since the moment we follow the Internation road Racing Championship too.

First of all how are you?
I am very well, thank you. Still buzzing after the TT!

This year you made your debut at the Tourist Trophy, when you begun to think to participate and how did you train in the last months?
It was always a dream for me to ride the TT. I just never thought it would be possible for me. When I started racing in the IRRC I raced with some guys who had done the TT and that was always very interesting. In 2013 I was teammate with Branko Srdanov and he was going to the TT that year. That was when I had the idea it would be possible for me too in the future. I started doing the big road races like the NW200 and Southern 100 to prepare for the TT. When I started riding for the Performance Racing Achterhoek team, I knew the time was right for the TT. The last few months were very hectic. I trained very hard in the gym and on the mountain bike. Also I spend a lot of time learning the track. But there were also a lot of things I need to take care of before we left for the TT. So it were very busy times for me.

How was when (finally) the 28th of May arrived?
Of course I was very nervous before the first practice started. But when I finally was on track it all fell into place. I was very happy with my track knowledge and confident I was able to have a successful TT.

During the practice week you have been faster every day, your best on Monday was 108.850mph and already on Tuesday you lapped on 115.06mph. what was your approach to the Course?
The work I did over the winter was the reason I was fast in the practice week. I haven’t had one moment I was in doubt what corner I was approaching or which part of the track I was.

What about the races, the Superbike race was the first, how was waiting for it? The stock race is the one you had your best result, and then the Senior Race.
The tension before the races is very high. There is no pressure on you as a newcomer, but of course you want to have the best result possible. The senior was the worst because it was delay after delay before the start. The races all went very well. But it is so hard on your body. Also to keep your concentration for so long is really difficult. Doing six laps around this course is the hardest thing I have done in my life. Before the beginning of race week I knew the stock class would be my best shot at a good result. The race went perfect and we did a solid pit stop. I was very happy to finish 34th!

Which are you best memories about your first TT? Are you going to come back next year?
The whole two weeks were like a dream. Everything just went so much better than we expected. It was great to be the fastest newcomer during the practice week and to ride the mountain course after all these years was an experience I will never forget! I hope I can come back to the TT next year, but it will be difficult. The event takes a lot of time and money.

Who supported you in this decision to ride the TT and who you want to thank?
I would like to thank all my sponsors. A lot of them have stand behind me from the beginning of my racing career. I can’t ever thank them enough for everything they have done for me! Also it was great to have the support of all the Dutch TT fans. Most of all I would like to thank Performance racing Achterhoek. I would be nothing without my team, and the guys worked so hard to get me a perfect bike for the whole two weeks.

What are next plans for the season? Last year you did the UGP, are you going to return or IRRC rounds for you?
I will be back in IRRC next year. Hopefully I can also do some of the big road races again.

For the Italian supporters, how do you describe yourself in 3 steps?
Simple, hard working, handsome

I want to thank Jochem for his helpfulness and for having been so nice. During my time at the TT I’ve met him a lot of times, but never had the chance to talk with him, so I really wish him to be at the TT next year, rider like him are the good side of this sport!
