INTERVISTA AL NEWCOMER CHE PROVIENE DAL IRCC

Quest’oggi vi presentiamo un altro protagonista dell’IRRC, che si appresta a debuttare alla North West200 ed al Tourist Trophy: Laurent Hoffman. Il pilota belga è il campione in carica nella classe supersport, il debutto avverrà con i colori del team Ice Valley Motorad di Paul Shoesmith. Ecco la nostra chiacchierata alla vigilia della partenza per l’Irlanda del Nord.

Ciao Laurent, grazie per la tua disponibilità. Iniziamo parlando del primo round dell’IRRC, il weekend di Hengelo è andato come ti aspettavi?
ciao, Hengelo è uno dei miei tracciati preferiti. Veloce e fluido. Mi sono qualificato in seconda posizione in griglia con delle gomme usate, per questo ero fiducioso di poter andare più veloce in gara. In gara uno ho attaccato da subito fin dal via e preso un buon vantaggio sul secondo e terzo. In gara due ho aspettato per vede in che punti i miei rivali erano più lenti di me e poi ho attaccato e conquistato al seconda vittoria. Detta così sembra facile ma è stata una dura battaglia quindi sono felice di aver vinto!

So che sei stato sull’Isola Di Man più di una volta per un miglior allenamendo lungo il tracciato, invece per la North?
Per la North West ho solo guardato molti giri di onboard ma non vedo molte difficoltà perchè ci sono lunghi rettilinei misti a qualche chicane, rotonde e curve alla fin. È un tracciato simile a quelli a cui sono abituato a gareggiare per questo penso e spero che imparerò abbastanza in fretta. Abbiamo quasi una settimana per farlo quindi…Iniziamo!
Per il mio debutto al TT mi sento fiducioso perchè ho fatto più di 30 giri, anche in condizioni di visibilità notturna per vedere a che punto fosse la mia conoscenza del tracciato. È andata bene così so cosa mi aspetterà. Per il resto sono felice che inizierò come un pilota sconosciuto lì. Non ho alcuna pressione su di me e nessuno si aspetterà che io faccia molto bene.

Pensando al tracciato del Mountain c’è stato un punto in cui hai pensato “Oh mio Dio!”?
Un momento “Oh mio Dio!”? ce ne sono molti ma il primo è subito quando lasci la pit lane e sai che andrai incontro a Bray Hill a tutta velocità, Oh mio Dio va giù..molto… gli altri momenti saranno quando la moto torna sull’asfalto in molte sezioni tipo il salto a Crosby, Ballasrye, Ballaugh bridge, Rhencullin…non sono abituato ad avere entrambe le ruote “per aria”, questa sarà una nuova esperienza.

Come ti senti pensando a questi due debutti? Cosa ti auguri?
Per questa prima volta spero di tornare sano e salvo dalla mia famiglia e da chi mi ama. Che mi divertirò in ogni momento e che potrò tornare il prossimo anno. Inizierò piano e con cautela, la velocità arriverà con la confidenza che cresce nella settimana di prove.

INTERVIEW WITH THE NEWCOMER WHO COMES FROM THE IRCC

Today we will introduce another protagonist of the IRRC, ready to debut at the North West200 and Tourist Trophy: Laurent Hoffman. The Belgian is the 2013 Supersport champion, now is ready to ride for the Paul Shoesmith’s Ice Valley Motorad team. Here our small talk before he’ll leave for the northern Ireland.

Hi Laurent, thank you for your time. Let’s talk about the first IRRC round, did the weekend at Hengelo went how you expected?
Hi, Hengelo is one of my favorite tracks. Fast and fluid. I qualified second on the grid on old tyres so I was confident to go even faster in the race. In the first race I attacked immediately from the start and kept a nice advantage over the second and third. In the second race I waited to see where my rivals were slower than me and then I attacked to take the second win. I seems easy but it was a hard fight so I’m happy that I won!

I know you went on the IOM more than once for a better training on the track, but how was your training for the North West200?
For the North West I only watched lots of onboard laps but I don’t see lots of difficulties as there are long straights mixed with some chicanes, roundabouts and corners in the end. It is a track like I am used to race on so I think and hope that I will learn it quite fast. We have almost a week to do so. Let’s get to it!
For my debut at the TT I feel confident because I did more than 30 laps, even in night time conditions to see how my track knowledge was. It went perfect so I know what is coming to me. For the rest I am happy that I will start as an unknown racer there. I don’t have any pressure on me and nobody will expect that I will do very well.

About the Mountain track is the some point you thought “OMG!”?
My OMG moment? There are many but the first one is directly when u leave the pit and know that u take Bray Hill flat out, OMG it goes down…. a lot. The other moments will be when the bike goes off the ground at many sections like Crosby jump, Ballacrye, Ballaugh bridge, Rhencullin…. I’m not used to go with my two wheels up so that will be a new experience.

How you feel thinking about this debut on these road races? What do you wish?
For this first time I wish that I will return safe to my family and loved ones. That I will have fun and enjoy every moment of it and that I can return next year. I will start slow and cautious, the speed will come along with the confidence that grows in the practice week.
