CHIACCHIERATA CON IL PORTACOLORI TYCO, SCOPRIAMO CHE …“LA GENTE DICE CHE SONO STRANO, INIZIO A PENSARE CHE SIA COSI”

L’MCE British Superbike è uno dei miei campionati preferiti, qualora non si fosse capito, capita che ieri mattina leggo un post su Facebook di Christian Iddon, quest’anno portacolori del Team Tyco BMW annoiato e finisce che lo intervisto. Da poco circa due mesi ha annunciato di voler partecipare al più presto alla North West200 ed al TT, almeno, quindi la mia perenne curiosità è aumentata a dismisura. Sapevo già che si tratta di un ragazzo gentile, che non manca mai di rispondere ai messaggi, ma la chiacchierata mi ha stupita moltissimo. A voi la lettura dell’intervista a Christian Iddon, prima nella versione italiana e, a seguire, in quella in lingua originale.

Ciao Christian, scusa il disturbo. Prima di tutto come stai?
Ciao Lilla, nessun problema. Vorrei dirti che sto bene, ma al momento non è propriamente vero. Ultimamente sono stato molto impegnato, il che è grandioso, mi sono divertito con i miei amici in questa settimana di attesa per Snetterton, ma ho avuto un incidente ed non sarò al 100% della forma per il weekend. È una situazione piuttosto difficile con cui fare i conti.

È la tua prima stagione con il team Tyco BMW, terzo posto in campionato, te lo aspettavi?
Mi sto veramente divertendo in questa prima stagione con Tyco. Mi piace lavorare con i ragazzi del team e l’inizio di stagione è stato grandioso, da Brands ho perso un po’ di feeling con la moto ma stiamo cercando di ritrovarlo.

Sii sincero ti aspettavi anche di esser davanti al tuo compagno di squadra?
Sinceramente si mi aspettavo di esser lì. Non sarei un pilota se mi aspettassi o sperassi in qualcosa di meno. Ho una grande squadra e una grande moto, quindi naturalmente le mie aspettative erano alte.

Nell’ultimo round hai avuto alcuni problemi, la caduta de sabato ha influenzato le gare?
Si Knockhill è stato difficile. Sono stato il più veloce nelle qualifiche, ma ho fatto un errore stupido che mi ha portato lontano in griglia. Ho guidato veramente male in gara 1 ed ho avuto problemi con la visiera con la pioggia in gara 2. Nel BSB non puoi neanche diminuire di poco la velocità che perdi molte posizioni perché la competizione è molto alta.

Adesso Snetterton, l’obiettivo è la tua prima vittoria?
Snetterton questo weekend sarebbe grandioso vincere, ma onestamente voglio solo andar lì e ritrovare il mio feeling con la moto e speriamo questo infortunio che ho subito non mi causi troppi problemi. Se son contento della moto i risultati arriveranno. Ne sono certo.

Hai detto di voler debuttare nel road racing, affermando “perchè no, è il momento giusto”. Sei stato presente sia alla North West200 che al TT, confermi il tuo desiderio?
Sono molto molto interessato alle road race. È ciò che desidero e credo di volerlo fare per le giuste ragioni. Comunque non penso neanche di essere stupido. Se non mi dovesse piacere mi fermerei. Al momento non ho ragioni per rischiare tutto per non divertirmi. La mia domanda più importante è se sia possibile dare il completo impegno Agli short circuit ed alle road races nella stessa stagione. Non credo vi sia stato qualcuno che sia riuscito in entrambe per molto tempo, ma al momento Hutchy sta dimostrando che è possibile.

Hai anche detto “non ho una fidanzata o moglie alla quale dover pensare quindi un motivo in più per debuttare”, mi sbaglio o una persona che ti è così vicina, che conosce i tuoi desideri ti supporterebbe, o mi sbaglio?
La mia famiglia è assolutamente contraria a questa decisione, specialmente mia madre. Capisco le sue preoccupazioni, anche io odierei avere qualcuno per il quale mi preoccupo o amo alla linea di partenza. Comunque ci sto lavorando su..un lavoro al quale non dirò di no. Sono stato ad entrambe le gare quest’anno ed alla fine di questa stagione analizzerò la mia situazione alla luce delle mie gare e se sia una giusta direzione da prendere.

Ok ultima domanda, descriviti per i tifosi italiani, in tre passi.
Tre parole. Scrupoloso/concentrato (ammetto la mi indecisione nella traduzione), interessato agli altri e strano.

No scusa, come strano?
Faccio un sacco di cose strane … non credo veramente di essere molto strano, ma la gente me lo dice spesso, quindi inizio a credere che sia vero.

Ovviamente non concordo con questa definizione, del resto basta poco per sentirsi dire che si è strani. Ringrazio ancora una volta Christian per il tempo dedicato, gli faccio il mio in bocca al lupo per questo round (e per l’intera stagione, sperando si di vederlo in veste di debuttante il prossimo anno al TT) e speriamo che questo infortunio sia meno grave del previsto.

A CHAT WITH THE TYCO BMW RIDER..“PEOPLE SAY I’M STRANGE SO I GUESS IT’S TRUE”

The MCE British Superbike is one of my favorite championship, if you didn’t know it already. So on yesterday morning I’ve read a post on Facebook of a bored Christian Iddon, the Tyco BMW rider, and we realized this interview. Less than two months ago he said he wants to make his road racing debut, so I’m more curious to talk with him. I already knew he’s a really nice guy, but this chat made my discover something more. Enjoy.

Hi Christian, thank you for your time. First of all how are you?
Hi Lilla, no problem. I will answer the best I can. would like to say I am well but at this very moment that is not exactly true. I have been very busy lately which has been great and I have been enjoying time with friends this week in the run up to Snetterton but I had an accident and now I am not going to be 100% for the weekend. It is a slightly difficult situation but now I must deal with it.

It’s the first season on the Tyco BMW, 3rd place in championship, did you expect it?
I am really enjoying the first season with TYCO. I love working with the guys in the team and the start of the season was great since brands I lost a little feeling for the bike but we are looking to regain that.

Let’s be honest did you expect being head of your team mate too?
Personally yes I did expect to be up there. I would not be a racer if I expected or hoped for anything less. I have a great team and a great bike so of course 3 my expectations were high.

Last round you had some problems, the crash on Saturday influenced the races?
Yes Knockhill was a struggle. I was fastest before qualifying but made a stupid mistake which put my quite far back on the grid. I rode really badly in race 1 and had visor problems in the rain in race 2. In BSB you cannot be even slightly off the pace because you lose a lot of positions because the competition is very strong.

Now Snetterton, your goal is the first victory?
Snetterton this weekend would be great to take a win but in all honesty I just want to get a good feeling back with my bike and hopefully this injury I have sustained will not cause me too many issues. If I am happy on the bike the results will come. That I am sure about.

You said you want to debut on real road racing, you said “why not, it’s the time”. You have been at the North West and TT too, you confirm your wish?
I am very very interested in road racing. It is my desire and I believe I want to do it for the right reasons. However I also don’t think I am stupid. If I did not like it I would stop. I have no reason to risk all for no enjoyment right now. My main question is if it is possible to give complete commitment to short circuits and road in the same season. I don’t believe anybody has been successful in both for a long time but right now Hutchy is showing it can be possible.

You also said “I don’t have a girlfriend/wife to think about so one more reason to debut”, but I guess a person so close to you, who knows your wish would support you, not saying “no”, am I wrong?
My family is really against it especially my mum. I understand her concerns as I would hate to have anyone on the start line I cared about or loved. However I am drawn to it… a draw that will not go away. I have attended both races this year and come later in this season I will analyze my situation with my racing and see if it is a good direction to take.

3 words… dedicated, caring, weird

Ehm, sorry, why weird?
I have a lot of strange things I do… I do not really think I’m weird too.much but people say it a lot so I guess it is true.

Of course I disagree about this being “weird”, people say it easily.

Once again I want to thank Christian for the interview, I wish him all best for this round (and the whole season too, I really hope to see him as a newcomer on the Mountain Course next year) and fingers crossed for the injury.
