BSB INTERVISTA A FILIP BACKLUND

IL PILOTA SVEDESE RACCONTA QUESTO INIZIO STAGIONE E SCOPRIAMO ANCHE CHE AMA IL NOSTRO PAESE

Come ben sapete la mia concezione di “seguire un campionato” vuol dire leggere la classifica e fare attenzione a tutti i piloti presenti. Nel 2014, subito dopo la pausa estiva, per in round di Cadwell Park è arrivato, direttamente dal Pirelli National Superstock1000 lo svedese Filip Backlund. La stagione precedente aveva concluso al terzo posto in campionato, anche in quella stagione stava comportandosi molto bene, il team decise di fargli fare il salto, andando a sostituire il pilota ingaggiato per la massima classe (Hutchinson). Il suo esordio mi aveva incuriosita parecchio, specie l’eredità che andava a raccogliere, in linea con gli ottimi risultati non ha deluso, andando a punti già a Donington Park, quindi il secondo round in sella alla superbike.

Quest’anno Filip ha cambiato casacca e corre con il team Kawasaki Quattro Plant di Pete Extance, già da qualche mese ero curiosa di intervistarlo e lo avevo “avvisato”, finalmente ci sono riuscita, ecco la nostra chiacchierata.

Ciao Filip, prima di tutto come stai?
Ciao Lilla, molto bene grazie. Sono parecchio impegnato ma va bene.
good.

Parliamo di questo inizio di stagione, il tuo infortunio (frattura della clavicola sinistra) ti ha costretto a saltare il primo round e seguire dai box, com’è stato ma sopratutto come va adesso? L’highside di Knockhill ha avuto conseguenze?

Si l’inizio di stagione non è andato come avevo pianificato. Come hai detto l’aver rotto la clavicola a sette giorni dal primo round a Silverstone ha messo me ed il team in condizione doverci rimettere in piedi. Fin dal mio ritorno dopo l’infortunio non ho ripreso a guidare come prima che accadesse. Mi manca un po’ di velocità e confidenza, ma il mio team a tute le persone che ho attorno mi stanno aiutando in ogni maniera possibile per ritornare a quella forma fisica a velocità a cui eravamo prima. Quindi non vedo l’ora per il resto della stagione per dare assolutamente il mio meglio per i risultati che sia io che il team meritiamo.   

A fine 2014 guidavi la Yamaha, ora per la seconda stagione di fila stai guidando una Kawasaki, è stato difficile adattarsi a queste due diverse moto?
C’è una piccola differenza nello stile di guida fra la Yamaha e la Kawasaki, anche se orma le moto si somigliano molto fra di loro. Per regolamento del nostro campionato, riguardo a cosa puoi cambiare sulle moto. Bene o male ci si ritrova a fare pochi cambiamenti e le modifiche riguardano la scelta dei migliori componenti, quindi le moto si somigliano molto. Mi piace molto la Kawasaki e si adatta molto bene al mio stile di guida, per questo sono molto contento di poter guidare ancora una Kawasaki per un’altra stagione.

Il prossimo round si corre a Snetterton, la scorsa stagione è stato il tuo miglior risultato, l’obiettivo è migliorarsi quest’anno?
Mi piace molto Snetterton. A molti piloti non piace perché non ha molte parti guidate. Voglio dire, Snetterton è quel tipo di tracciato flat-track (senza saliscendi), con una prima parte molto stretta e tortuosa ed una seconda parte con curvoni veloci. Secondo me è uno dei migliori tracciati del calendario, insieme ad altri. L’anno scorso ho fatto il mio miglior risultato con l’ottavo posto e naturalmente correi fare meglio e magari con un risultato più in alto in classifica.

Cosa ti auguri per questa stagione?
Sia migliorarmi come pilota che stabilirmi costantemente nella top 10 dei piloti e lottare per le prime 5 posizioni.

Qual è il tuo tracciato preferito del campionato?

A dire il verone ho alcuni, sono un fan dei tracciati inglesi. Uno che amo molto e mi diverto quando è il momento di correrci è Silverstone, per la sua velocità; Donington Park credo sia il miglior tracciato al mondo. Brands Hatch perché è come una montagna russa per le moto, Oulton Park bellissimo, Snetterton e devo dire Thruxton, che è il tracciato più veloce del calendario. Un posto grandioso!

Stai lavorando molto con la quadra, mister Extance (il team owner) ha detto grandi cose su di te e sul tuo talent, c’è qualcosa sulla quale devi ancora migliorare, che devi perfezionare?
Conosco la squadra e Pete Extance fin dalla mia prima stagione, nel 2013. Mi è sempre piaciuto il loro team ed il loro modo di lavorare. Quindi sono molto felice di lavorare con loro quest’anno. Anche sentire queste parole direttamente dal team owner è fantastico, sono felice!

Dicevamo appunto nuova squadra, seguendovi sui social si vede come sia una grande famiglia, mi viene in mente gli ultimo video con Andy Reid, questo aiuta a rilassasi dopo prove e gare?  

Si, è una nuova squadra ma come ti dicevo li conosco (team e crew) da anni. Stesso discorso per i miei compagni di squadra, quindi si è come dici tu una grande famiglia che viaggia in giro e si diverte!

Il tuo team partecipa ad alcune road races, saresti curioso di provarci?

A dire il vero no, sono felice dove sto ed amo gli short circuit. Se posso essere sincero non credo mi divertirei a guidare per le strade. Come si dice, fai ciò in cui sei bravo e credo sia pieno di piloti che andrebbero più veloci di me nelle road race, ma certamente io posso essere più veloce di molti specializzati nelle road race piuttosto che negli short circuit.

Ultima domanda, per I tifosi italiani, descriviti in tre parole.

Sono una persona molto felice, passionale ed entusiasta (ok una precisazione di traduzione, come potete vedere nella versione originale secondo e terzo aggettivo sono in realtà sinonimi per noi, ho cercato di darvi al meglio l’idea). Per chi mi incontra e per i tifosi cerco di dedicare il mio tempo e mostrare che ci tengo. Un messaggio per voi italiani, amo l’Italia, il vostro cibo, il vino ed il vostro buon gusto per le cose. Un giorno avrò casa in Italia!

INTERVIEW WITH FILIP BACKLUND

THE SWEDEN RIDER TALKS ABOUT THIS FIRS PART OF THE SEASON AND HIS LOVE FOR ITALY

As you should know following a championship means reading the whole classification after a race, taking a look at all riders involved. In 2014, just after the summer stop, at Cadwell Park arrived, from the Pirelli National Stuperstock1000 championship the Sweden rider Filip Backlund. The previous season he finished in third place and he was riding really fast that season too, but his team decide to made him switch to the main class to replace their rider (Ian Hutchinson). I was really curious about his debut, for the legacy he had from the previous rider. He didn’t disappoint the team, his first point arrived on the second round he took place on a superbike, at Donington Park. This season fillip is riding for the Quattro Plant Kawasaki team owned by Pete Extance, few months ago I’ve already told him my wish to interview him and “warned” him, now I’ve been finally about to interview him, so here our chat, enjoy.

Hi Filip, first of all how are you?

Hi Lilla, I’m very well thank you. Keeping myself a lot busy thought but
good.

Let’s talk about this start of the season, your injury forced you to miss the first round, how was watching from pit and how?s going now? Did the highside at Knockhill have consequences?

Yes the start of the season didn’t really kicked off like planed. Like you are mentioning, a broken collarbone just a week before the first round at Silverstone have put myself and the team on the back foot.
Since I have come back riding after my injury I haven’t really come back to where we were. I’m lacking a little bit of speed and confident but my team and other people I have around me are helping me in every possible way to find back to that fitness and speed that we were before. So I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and to do my absolute best to get the results both me and the team deserves.

In end of 2014 you ride a Yamaha, now for the second season in a row your are on a Kawasaki, is it difficult to adapt to this different bikes?
There is a small different in riding styles between the Yamaha and the Kawasaki, even thought this days the bikes a fairly similar to each other.
In our regulations of the championship and what you are allowed to do and change on the bikes, you more or less take away all the bikes weak spots and replace them with good parts, which also makes the bikes very equal.
I really like the Kawasaki and it suits my riding style well, so I’m happy that I’m able to continue to race on Kawasaki machinery for another season.

Next round is Snetterton, last season was your best result of the season, the goal is to be better this year?
I really like and enjoys Snetterton. A lot of riders don’t because it’s a track who doesn’t give you as a rider too much. What I mean is that Snetterton is a very flat track with one part who is really tight and twisty, and the other part which has long high speed corners. In my opinion it’s one of the best tracks on the calendar, together with a few others as well.
Last year I had my best finish of the season with an 8th place and of course I would love to better that on this year with an even higher result.

What do you wish for this season?

To both develop myself as a rider but also to establish myself as a consistent top 10 rider and also be able to fight for top 5 finishes.

What’s your favorite track of the championship?

I actually have a few, I’m a big fan of the UK tracks. The ones I really like and enjoys coming to is Silverstone because it’s just so fast, Donington Park who maybe is the best track in the world, Brands Hatch because it’s like a rollercoaster for bikers, Oulton Park because it’s just such a beautiful place, Snetterton and I just have to say Thruxton, the quickest circuit on the calendar. Just a great place!

You’re working a lot with the team, mr. Extance spent really good words about you and your talent, is there something that need to be perfect?

I have known the team and Pete Extance since I first came here to the UK and start racing in 2013. I have always liked their team and how they are working so I’m really happy and pleased to be able to race for them this year.
Also to hear those fine words from the team owner is great, I’m happy!

New team for you this season, following you on socials it seems like a big family, I’m thinking about the last vides with Andy Reid uploaded during the last round, this helps to relax after practice/races?

Yes, it’s a new team but like I mention above, I have known the team and the crew for a lot of years. The riders inside the team I also knew since before so it’s a little bit like you say, like a big family who just travels around and having a great time!

Your team is involved in road racing, would you be curious to try?

No actually not, I’m happy where I’m and I love do short circuit. If I’m going to be honest, I don’t think I would enjoy racing on the roads. It’s like we used to say, do what you are good at, and I think there is plenty of other riders who can go quicker than me on the roads, and I can most certain go quicker than a lot of riders who rides on the roads on a small circuit.

Last question, for Italian supporters, describe yourself in 3 steps.

I’m a very happy, passionate and enthusiastic person. For people and fans who meets me, I’m trying to give them my time and show that I care. Last thing as well for my Italian supporters, I do Love Italy, your food, your wine, your fine taste of things. One day I will have my house in Italy!
