INTERVISTA A CUORE APERTO CON RHALF CHE QUEST’ANNO CORRE NELLA MASSIMA SERIE INGLESE

Qualche giorno prima dell’inizio del Tourist Trophy ho avuto modo di intervistare, o per meglio dire chiacchierare con Rhalf Lo Turco, il simpaticissimo pilota brasiliano che quest’anno compete nel British Superbike, la chiacchierata ha riservato anche una sorpresa inaspettata, soprattutto per me, ma lo capirete leggendo.

Ciao, prima di tutto come stai?dopo questi due round (si erano disputati solo i round di Brands Hatch Indy e Oulton Park nda)
Molto bene, grazie.

Lo scorso anno correvi nella Stock1000, ora nella Sbk, quanto sono diverse, per un pilota?
La differenza è enorme, come moto si tratta di una più potente e l’elettronica e le sospensioni sono anche molto differenti, non c’è il traction control o l’anti wheelie sulla moto che guido adesso, oltre ad avere 200 cavalli alla ruota.

Come ti sei sentito la prima volta che l’hai guidata?
Mi sono sentito bene ma anche un po’ spaventato perché come sappiamo tutti con più di 200 cavalli non hai bisogno di un highside in uscita di curva (ride). Dopo un po’ che ho iniziato ad aver confidenza con la moto ed abbiamo fatto tre giorni di test in Spagna alla fine di marzo ho ricominciato a sentire la moto mia.

Ho sbirciato il tuo profilo sui social network e mi sembra di aver capito che vivi la tua stagione step by step, con miglioramenti per ogni prova in cui guidi.
Si, sicuramente il mio budget è molto limitato, non ho grossi sponsor che mi aiutino finanziariamente e le superbike sono molto costose, al momento non possiamo sostenere di usare tutte le gomme e non posso permettermi di cadere altrimenti la mia stagione potrebbe concludersi prima che inizi.

Quindi il tuo team è composto da veri amici che vogliono il meglio per te e ti aiutano?
Si, tutti nella squadra sono volontari, la sola persona che viene pagata è i ragazzo delle sospensioni che arriva da Olhins. Credono nel mio talento ed è stato un vero impegno per tutti.

Grandioso! Credo sia il vero significato dello sport,per me. Ma parlando di famiglia, tu sei brasiliano, è stato difficile trasferirti in Europa per correre?
Sicuramente tutti amiamo ciò che facciamo ed è una passione vera per tutti noi, per me ciò che fanno è incredibile e sono immensamente grato e fortunato per questo. Non è stato difficile perché mio fratello vive nel Regno Unito e mio nonno era italiano, è emigrato in Brasile nel 1900, così trasferirmi in Europa è stato un po’ come tornare alle mie origini, infatti Lo Turco è un cognome della Calabria.

Scherzi??io ho trascorso la mia infanzia in Calabria!!
(ride) bello! Ma solo mio padre è stato lì, io ancora no. Sono stato solo a Milano al bike Show (l’Eicma nda) ed a Venezia in vacanza.

Potrebbe piacerti, la vita è molto rilassata lì ed il clima è favorevole! Al momento vivi in Inghilterra, esatto?
Si, a Londra.

Oh quindi non molto lontano dall’Isola Di Man, hai mai pensato al Tourist Trophy? Rafael Paschoalin parteciperà anche quest’anno.
(ride) È qui accanto a me ora.

(rido anche io) grande!
Lo sto aiutando anche quest’anno con la preparazione della moto nel mio negozio e sarò lì con lui, di nuovo.

Ma non hai mai pensato di correrci anche tu?
Non credo faccia per me, le road races sono molto pericolose e a me piace correre entro i miei limiti. Quando corri al limite fare errori è abbastanza facile e sull’Isola non sono ammessi errori.

Ottimo punto di vista. La tua famiglia ti ha sostenuto nella tua decisione di correre?
Si, all’inizio è stata un po’dura ma ora ho il sostegno di tutti.

Come ti rilassi prima delle gare?
Relax?cos’è? (ride) lavoro sempre.

Solitamente chiedo come ultima domanda una top tre dei tracciati preferiti.
Il primo è Cadwell Park, il secondo Snetterton e Brands Hatch GP, ma mi piace anche Donington.

Ovviamente ora mi è venuta in mente un’altra domanda. Cosa ti auguri per questa stagione?
Certo! Andare a punti nel BSBe trovare un buono sponsor che mi dia una migliore possibilità nel campionato.

C’è qualcosa che vorresti dire qui ai lettori di Motology?mai dire mai nella vita..
Beh, seguite il sogno brasiliano nel BSB, io non smetterò mai di provarci. Ringrazio voi per questa intervista, lo so che i top riders sono i più “pubblicizzati”ma sono i ragazzi “piccoli” a necessitare di aiuto quindi grazie per questo spazio.

THE BRASILIAN GUY WITH ITALIAN HEART WHO RIDES THE BSB

Some day before the Tourist Trophy started it was my pleasure t have an interview with Rhalf Lo Turco, the funny guy from Brazil, who’s riding in the British Superbike this year. It have been a really nice chat, with a surprise form me, but you will understand reading the interview, so here our chat.

First of all, how are you? how you feel after two round
I am great thanks.

Last year you where riding in the Stock10o0 class, now sbk, how are different, for a rider?
The difference is massive as the bike is much more powerful and the electronics and suspension are also very different, there is no traction control or anti wheelie the bike I am riding now has over 200BHP at the rear wheel.

How you felt the first time you rode it?
It felt good but a bit scary too as we all know with 200 plus horse power you do not need much to highside the bike out of a corner LOL After a while I started to get used to the bike and we done three days testing in Spain at the end of march and it started to feel like my bike again

Reading on your profile you are living this season step by step, maybe little improvements every practice you ride.
Yes for sure my budget is very small I do not have any big sponsor helping me with money and superbikes are very expensive at the moment we cannot even afford to use all the tyres and cannot afford to keep crashing otherwise my season could be finish even before it start.

So your team is made by “real” friends, people who want the best for you and help you?
Yes everyone in my team are volunteers the only person that gets paid is the suspension guy from Olhins. they believe in my talent and it has been a real buz for everyone.

That’s great, because it’s the real meaning of sport (or it is for me)! speaking about family, you are from Brazil, was it hard to decide to move in Europe to race?
For sure we all love what we do it is a real passion for all of us and what they are doing for me is incredible I very grateful and lucky. It wasn’t really as my brother already lived in UK and my Grandad was Italian that migrated to Brazil in 1900 so to come to Europe in a way was like going back to my origins as LO TURCO is from Calabria.

You kidding??? i spent my childhood in Calabria!!
Really cool but I never been there my father did. I only been to the Milan bike show and went to Venice on holliday.

You could love it life is so simply there…and the weather!!! you live in England now, right?
Yes I live in London.

So, not so far from the Isle of Man, have you ever thought about the Tourist Trophy? Rafael Paschoalin will take part again this year
He is right here with me LOLOLOL

I am helping him again we prep his bike in my shop and I will be there with him again.

But never thought to ride you too?
I don’t think is for me the road races are very dangerous and I like riding on my limits and when you ride on the limit you can make mistakes quite easy and at the Island no mistakes are allowed.

Good point. did your family supported you in your decision to ride?
Yes at the beginning was a bit hard but everyone is very supportive now.

How do you relax before races?
Relax what is this? LOL Working all the time

I usually ask as last question favorite tracks, a top 3.
First is Cadwell, second Snetterton and Brands GP also I like Donington.

Thanks! of course I have another question to ask. what do you wish for this season?
Sure. To score points in BSB and find a good sponsor to give me a better opportunity in the championship.
